Airport festival in glorious weather: more than 10,000 visitors celebrated

Rostock-Laage, 11 September 2023. Glorious weather, a lively atmosphere, happy faces: this year's summer festival at Rostock-Laage Airport once again drew more than 10,000 visitors of all ages. All the attractions, exhibits and experiences around the theme of the airport and aircraft were especially popular.

The German Airways Embraer E190 airliner, flown in specially from Cologne/Bonn for the festival and open for viewing, was one of the most popular attractions. Families in particular queued to see the aircraft from the inside. The German Armed Forces, whose "Steinhoff" fighter wing is also based at Rostock-Laage, drew many people with its training aircraft and information stands.

The stage programme had a strong regional character, with musical performances, dance shows and informative entertainment. Many regional exhibitors also presented themselves at the festival: companies, clubs and associations.

The information stands of the fire brigade and police about their tasks at the airport were, of course, in high demand. This year visitors could also take in the overview from the airport's terrace restaurant, which was open and very well attended throughout the day.

The topic of space was represented too: the space-tech start-up PTS took interested visitors on an interactive journey into space with VR glasses in the terminal building. The scientific lunar test environment set up there by the company could also be viewed – making Rostock-Laage Airport unique in the eyes of many scientists.

As host of the exuberant summer festival, Rostock-Laage Airport received a great deal of positive feedback from visitors. Airport Managing Director Dominik Wiehage: "We are very glad that, as a regional airport, we were able to offer the people of the region such a wonderful festival. We gave many visitors a joyful day and at the same time promoted our airport. I would especially like to thank the hundreds of helpers around the festival for their dedicated support."
