Rostock-Laage Airport (IATA: RLG; ICAO: ETNL) is the largest commercial airport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The site, which was created to house a military installation, has been used since 1993 by Flughafen Rostock-Laage GmbH as a civilian regional airport. Out of a total area of 1,000 hectares, around 60 hectares are provided for civil use. To this day, this military-civil aviation cooperation is unique in Germany. Because of its ideal geographic location, the regional airport is establishing itself increasingly as an appealing gateway for tourists at the Baltic Sea and business travellers. Geographically, Rostock is a logistical hub for people travelling to places such as Scandinavia, the Baltic region, and Southern and Eastern Europe. With its 24-hour operating permit, freight flights up to jumbo size can now fly to and be dispatched from the airport round the clock and in any weather.
