The Chamber of Industry and Commerce Rostock commissioned a scientific research study with detailed facts and figures to point out the significance and future perspectives of the airport Rostock-Laage for the region and the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .
The research study was prepared by Prof. Dr. Richard Klophaus, Centre for Aviation Law and Business at the Trier University of Applied Sciences. Prof. Klophaus is a renowned expert for airport development issues.
The study indicates that the existence of about 7,000 jobs is directly or indirectly related to the operation of the airport Rostock-Laage. Of these jobs, about 2600 are associated with the direct military and civilian airport operations in Rostock-Laage. The regional economic importance of the airport Rostock-Laage can not only be determined by the flight operations and passenger numbers. The investigation of the economic environment of the airport showed how the flight operations boost growth impulses and economic effects. The volume of direct and indirect gross value added amounts to about 384 million Euro per year for the region.
In the medium to long term, targeted measures are required to foster the further development of the airport as a business factor and to strengthen its position as the central airport of the federal state for business travels and tourism. Especially the incoming tourism provides substantial growth potentials that can be explored by targeted marketing activities in so-called source markets.
In addition, the airport Rostock-Laage plays a major role as location factor to attract new investors, establish company settlements and support domestic companies in expansion projects.
