Helvetic Airways’ Zurich-Rostock-Zurich route, which was launched as recently as May 2010, has become a great success in its first year. Right up to the end of September, the Swiss airline’s modern jets were flying with excellent occupancy and proving especially popular with Swiss people visiting the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region.
These positive results have prompted the airline to extend its flight frequencies significantly in 2011. Rather than flying from just May to September, as in 2010, the Rostock route is instead being integrated into its complete 2011 summer timetable, which runs from the end of March to the end of October.
Tobias Pogorevc, CFO of Helvetic Airways, says, ‘It seems the Swiss market had been waiting for the Rostock route. The Baltic is on its way to becoming a destination of choice among the Swiss, and in 2011 our flights will be featuring in the catalogues of many of Switzerland’s tour operators.’
Maria Muller, managing director of Rostock Airport, is pleased with the development. ‘Helvetic’s success this year and the extension of its flights next year clearly show that we are on the right track. We are steadily developing our flights on offer in order to open up new tourist source markets for the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.’
The Zurich-Rostock-Zurich route will operate on Thursdays and Sundays from 27 March 2011 to 23 October 2011, using modern Fokker 100 jets offering space for 100 passengers. The flight times have also been improved for next summer, with departures at 13.10 from Zurich on both days, arriving in Rostock at 14.40. The return flight is at 15.30 on each day, arriving in Zurich at 17.00.

Swiss travellers can also book the flights with their travel agents as part of packages that include transfers and hotel accommodation. Of course, the flights can be booked in the other direction too, allowing people from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to enjoy a quick and convenient way of travelling to Switzerland next year as well.
