Lufthansa to fly nonstop to Rostock

For the first time in the history of the airport Rostock-Laage, the German Lufthansa will offer scheduled flights – from the hub Munich, Rostock will be operated nonstop starting from the end of March – Target groups are particularly Baltic sea vacationers – Rostock-Laage becomes more and more the gateway to the tourist region Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

At the end of March 2010, Rostock-Laage will be integrated in the flight routes of German Lufthansa. The airline with the crane logo already sold tickets to Rostock under a code sharing agreement for flights of Cirrus Airlines a couple of years ago. Now it is the first time that the route to Munich is independently operated two times a week by state-of-the-art jets of the type Canadair 900 of Lufthansa Regional. Starting with the summer timetable at the end of March 2010, jets of the Canadair 900 of Lufthansa Regional will initially operate the route two times a week. Flights to and from Rostock will depart every Saturday morning and Sunday evening. The schedule is adjusted in a way that especially vacationers can profit from the flight connection.
Maria Muller, managing director of Flughafen Rostock-Laage-Güstrow GmbH, points out: „Our strategy to further develop Rostock-Laage as a gateway for vacationers to the tourist region Mecklenburg-Vorpommern proves successful. We are very happy that we were able to implement this concept with the Lufthansa for the Munich route, too. In difficult economic times like these, it is a very positive signal. Therefore we consider the new Lufthansa connections as a clear commitment of the airline to the potential Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has to offer and can be proud of. If the route is going to prove as successful as we anticipate it, we will discuss additional flight frequencies.“
Thanks to the central location of the airport Rostock, the majority of holiday regions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can be reached quickly and conveniently from the airport, which is particularly convenient for short trips and weekend tourists. This also includes that Lufthansa guests, who do not want to book a rental car, can take advantage of the shuttle service offered by the Tourism Association of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (TMV) – shuttles depart directly at the airport Rostock-Laage to the Baltic coast (Warnemünde, Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn), the Baltic seaside resorts on the peninsula Fischland-Darss-Zingst (Dierhagen, Ahrenshoop, Prerow, Zingst), the Island of Rügen (Stralsund, Bergen, Binz, Sellin) and the Mecklenburg lake district (Linstow, Land Fleesensee, Klink, Waren/Müritz).
Tickets for the new route can now be booked at www.lufthansa.com or at any travel agency. The flight fares start at 99 euro for return flights including taxes and fees. All flights offer both economy and business tariffs. Information on shuttle connections and additional routes to Rostock can be found at www.rostock-airport.com.
